Alocasia ‘Bambino’
Alocasia 'Bambino' Native to the tropical rainforests of Southern Asia, these little tropical beauties are fantastic foliage plants. They are known for their glossy heart shaped leaves and often referred to as 'Elephant's Ears'. Bambino is a miniature species that will grow to a mere one foot tall. It has glossy arrowhead leaves that are dark green with a burgundy reverse and contrasting stark white veins.
This plant like most is a variety that prefers indirect bright light but will tolerate low light conditions making it very versatile for many indoor settings. It grows best in higher humidity levels of around 60%. It is however very hardy and it will also grow in lower humidity well as well. Some browning of the edges of the leaves can also occur when the humidity is too low.
Its best to use a loose, well-draining soil to ensure adequate air-rating of the roots and ensure its not to stay too wet. To ensure over watering does not occur only water when the top two inches of the potting medium is dry.
As these plants are tropical in cooler months their foliage might die off and they may go dormant. If this happens remove dead leaves and water a lot less, it will re shoot when the weather is warmer.
This plant if digested can be mildly poisonous and irritating to pets and people.
