Pachypodium saundersii, commonly known as Saunders'  Pachypodium, Kudu Lily or Star of the Veld, is a captivating succulent shrub that hails from the rocky landscapes of Southern Africa. Named after botanist H.J. Saunders, this plant stands out with its unique, bottle-shaped trunk and clusters of spiky leaves.

These stunners feature a bottle-shaped or caudex stem thats purpose is to store water. This adaptation allows it to thrive in arid environments. This swollen base tapers upwards into several spiny branches, creating a unique and branching tree like silhouette. The stems and branches are adorned with sharp spines that serve as a defence mechanism, deterring herbivores in its natural habitat. In the spring and summer these plants produce clusters of beautiful, white flowers that have a subtle pink or purple tinge.

Like most cacti, Pachypodium saundersii thrives in bright, indirect light. It’s best to water moderately during the growing season and allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Using a well-draining soil mix specifically formulated for succulents or cacti will help the plant dry out quick enough to prevent any rotting.

Each living plant is unique and may vary slightly in size, colour, or shape depending on the season. Flowering plants are sent when available.

(you will receive a bare rooted plant similar to the ones in the pictures provided.)
