Espostoa melanostele affectionately nicknamed the Peruvian Old Lady cactus, is loved for its unique appearance with its dense covering of woolly white ‘hair’. This columnar cactus native to the high-altitude regions of Peru so its ‘hair’ helps protect it from the harsh conditions and sun.

In its natural desert habitat, Espostoa melanostele thrives in dry, sunny environments and it is incredibly drought-tolerant.

As it matures, Espostoa melanostele can grow to being several feet in height and will sometimes branch from the base, creating a multi-headed appearance however this isn’t always the case.

While flowering is rare in cultivation, mature specimens of Espostoa melanostele produce beautiful white flowers over spring and summer. These unique flowers close during rainstorms and reopen when dry this is to ensure successful pollination. A very cool adaptation!

Each living plant is unique and may vary slightly in size, colour, or shape depending on the season. Flowering plants are sent when available.

(You will receive a bare rooted plant similar to the ones in the pictures provided)
